the trace: translating [x] series invites readers to think about writing, place, and community; and to consider what is gained, lost, or missing, in processes of translation.

POETRY IN COMMUNITY / #Women'sHistoryMonth

SUNDAY, MARCH 16. 2.30-4.30 pm

It's Okay Studios. 468 Queen St. W. Toronto.

In Arabic, the word for love حب  is one letter shorter than the word for war حرب

In these challenging times, trace invites you to find solace and community with poetry. Jessica Kasiama and Furqan Mohamed will guide a collective reading and discussion of poems by Samar Diab, George Abraham, Najlaa Eltom, Lena Khalaf Tuffaha, Miled Faiza (& others) from Arabic, between Love and War.

Together, we will explore questions of labour (creative, and otherwise), desire, silence, grief, refusal, and the poetics of daily life. What can reading such poems in translation teach us about different modes of anticolonial feminism and resistance?

Your ticket includes a copy of Arabic, between Love and War (shared at event)
